Theatre Day Trolleys: Comfort and Functionality Combined

Theatre Day Trolleys offer a wide range of collection, storage and transportation solutions for a wide variety of materials. These include a wide variety of props, instruments and equipment for music, costumes, stage curtains and lighting, and rigging supplies.

A majority of both day-case patients and in-patients would prefer to walk to theatre. This preference was more marked in younger patients and males.

Comfortable Seating

Comfort for theatre audiences is a complex subject, and it has both physical and social components. The physical aspects include the seating or standing area, the amount of space available, and the ease of access to it. The social aspects involve the feeling of connection with others in a theatre audience.

Our specialty carts can be used to transport and store chairs for banquets, conferences, and other events in the theatre. Options such as a spring platform to reduce strain when loading or unloading the cart help to make this task more productive and comfortable. A special front wheel helps to prevent accidental falls of the transported chair contents. Floor bars can be added for precise row spacing. Cup holder and decorative aisle/end panels are also available.

If you are planning to attend a show in the West End, then it is best to arrive early. Queues tend to start from the early hours of the morning and ticket sales are often sold out for popular shows by the time the box office opens at 10am. If you want to ensure that you get the best seats available, it is a good idea to ring the box office before you leave home.

A well-managed bar team can make a real impact on a guest’s experience at a dinner event. The timing of when the bar makes its appearance needs to be accounted for, as does the number of people manning it.

Infection control is a major concern in theatres with the Fiji Infection Control Manual (2002) emphasising that the Cycle of Infection must be prevented. Theatre trolleys are a key component of this. One trolley system for patients from ward to theatre significantly reduces the need to manually lift patient thus minimising risk of injury to the patient and back injuries to nurses. Unfortunately, two trolley systems are still in use which increases risk of contamination from a second trolley and slows the movement of patients through theatre to the operating table.

The QA4 and Rapido are examples of this type of trolley. However, both have issues. The QA4 can be difficult to manoeuvre due to the low ground clearance and at 225kgs Safe Working Load (SWL) it is heavier than the OpMaster and QAFlex. It also does not lower to a horizontal position which limits the range of backrest adjustment. It also does not offer full X-ray translucency.

The Clino STE/C-R series is the ideal trolley for hospital environments as it offers great functionality, attractive design and is environmentally friendly. Its plastic modular construction made from up to 99 percent recycled raw material enables a number of different configuration options.

Easy to Store

Infection control in theatre is one of the main concerns, and it’s important to ensure that sterile equipment circulates through the operation. One way to do this is to use trolleys on wheels which are specially designed for day surgery patients – filled with all the sterile supplies needed for one procedure. This means fewer trips from ward to x-ray to theatre and back again – helping to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Gratnells’ range of storage trolleys are designed to help you do just that.

They’re easy to manoeuvre with a swivel castor and fitted with brakes and buffers to protect against damage. They also feature anti-static trolley wheels which don’t collect hair and are treated with BioCote, an additive that helps to reduce the growth of bacteria, moulds and fungi. And with two ranges to choose from, there’s a trolley for every situation.

A major concern with current hospital practice is the time it takes to transport a patient from the ward to theatre. It’s often difficult to find enough trolley spaces for the number of patients who need to be moved each day. This is particularly a problem in hospitals where it’s usual for selected day-surgery patients to be allowed to travel to theatre by themselves. A recent study found that younger patients, and those being given a sedative or benzodiazepine pre-medication, were more likely to prefer walking to theatre compared to older patients.

As a result, many hospitals are implementing two trolley systems, where an outside trolley is allocated for the transport of patients from their ward to a semi-sterile area and then an inside trolley is used to take them to the operating table in theatres. While this system may be able to cope with most cases, it can lead to delays in taking patients to theatres and a significant increase in the workload of staff who need to lift and transfer the very sickest patients.

A good solution is to buy a trolley which can be easily adapted to accommodate more than one trolley space – and this can be achieved by purchasing extra shelves for the trolley. For example, if you purchase the QA4 trolley which has a removable perspex drawer divider kit (available separately), it can be used to create 32 individual compartments. This can save a lot of time in preparing the trolley for a surgery, and it’s an easy way to make sure that the correct tray is being used for each patient.
